Steve was born in Ohio and has lived in Hardin County most of his life. His parents were factory workers and part-time farmers, and Steve was raised with a strong work ethic. Steve has been married to Jill, his college sweetheart, for 25 years. Jill is a CPA who teaches Accounting at Ohio Northern University.

They have been blessed with three children. Savannah is a fourth-year pharmacy student at ONU, Sarah is a sophomore biology/secondary ed major at ONU, and Noah is a senior in high school at Hardin Northern.

The Christophers live on their family farm, which is enrolled in the Ducks Unlimited/Pheasants Forever/landowner conservation reserve program.

Steve received both his bachelors degree and his law degree from Ohio Northern University and has practiced law in Findlay and, for a period, in Kenton for 25 years. He has also been the acting Municipal Court Judge in Hardin County for the past five years. Steve is an Adjunct Professor at Ohio Northern University. He has done volunteer legal work for the NRA and for Jay Sekulow's group, the ACLJ (a conservative legal group that often fights the ACLU).

Steve is a life member of the National Rifle Association and is a founder of the Hardin County Tea Party. The Christophers are firm believers in the importance of faith, family and traditional values, and attend the New Hope Fellowship church in Kenton.
